SEASONAL PRESERVING CLASSES

BBQ Basics from the Larder

Class size is limited to 12 students.

We're very excited about our continuing Valerie Confections Seasonal Preserving Classes. Owner Valerie Gordon and Kevin West, of the blog Saving the Season, will be teaching a beginning preserving class, introducing students to the art of home canning. For July, you'll learn how to enhance your summer grilling with preserved or pickled seasonal ingredients. The menu includes: stone fruit jams, pickled green beans, and relish. After the class, stay enjoy an early supper from the grill and the jar!

We'll be offering one class each season incorporating seasonal farmers markets fruits and vegetables. The upcoming schedule for our Preserving Classes is below:

Oct. 9 (also October 15), 2 to 5 p.m. The Cheese Board and Your Autumn Larder: The perfect components for an artisan cheese platter. The menu includes: fig and Port jam, fruits in piquant syrup and autumn chutney. After-class festivities include cheese and wine pairings.

Dec. 4, 1 to 5 p.m. Holiday Gifting From the Larder: Create beautiful and delicious gifts. The menu includes: Paradise jelly, pickle parfait, winter fruit and truffle compote. (This class is $150.)

HIGH TEA WITH VALERIE CONFECTIONS AND AMERICAN TEA ROOM DEBUTS ON MOTHER’S DAY, SUNDAY, MAY 9TH

Beverly Hills, CA (April 2010) American Tea Room and Valerie Confections will be launching weekend High Tea beginning on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 9th, 2010. Served every Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the American Tea Room tea emporium in Beverly Hills, the High Tea will feature savory and sweet selections from Valerie Confections and fine teas from American Tea Room.

The menu will feature seasonally inspired tea sandwiches, scones served with Valerie’s handmade jams and marmalades, tarts, petits fours, and chocolates—all artisanally made by Valerie Confections. Over 200 gourmet loose leaf teas will be available to choose from, each cup steeped to perfection by the experts at American Tea Room.

The menu for the inaugural tea on Mother’s Day will include:

- Curried Chicken Tea Sandwich with Muscat Grapes
- Breakfast Radish Tea Sandwich with Butter and Lemon Confit
- Crab Salad with Mint and Peas
- Crème Fraiche Scones served with a selection of handmade jams and marmalades
- Lemon Tartlets
- Earl Grey Petits Fours
- Matcha Green Tea Shortbread Cookies
- Assorted Valerie Confections Chocolates

VALERIE FALL OPEN HOUSE

VALERIE CONFECTIONS TO HOLD FALL OPEN HOUSE OCTOBER 27th – 31st AT THEIR LOS ANGELES BOUTIQUE AND FACTORY

Timed to coincide with the traditionally candy-associated holiday of Halloween, Valerie Confections will be holding a Fall Open House week from October 27th to 31st (with a Press Preview event on October 26th) at their Los Angeles boutique and factory. Each day of the Open House week Valerie will be sampling a different confection free to all who visit. It’s trick-or-treats for the sophisticated palate.

The Open House week will launch with a special press only event and party the evening of Monday, October 26th, and culminate on Halloween, Saturday, October 31st with a guided sampling of all manner of chocolate toffees and truffles for our visitors.

Valerie Confections is located at 3360 West 1st St. in Los Angeles at the intersection of Virgil and Beverly Blvd.

Monday, October 26th Press Preview Event and Party 4 pm to 8 pm Press are invited to attend our Open House Kickoff Party. Tuesday, October 27th Blum’s Coffee Crunch Cake and Blum’s Lemon Crunch Cake 10 am to 6 pm

The Open House Week begins in earnest with a sampling of two of our most popular cakes—the Blum’s Coffee Crunch Cake and the Blum’s Lemon Crunch Cake. The Coffee Crunch Cake was created for a Los Angeles Times Magazine story on wedding cakes. Almost immediately Valerie began receiving scores of calls from native Californians who fondly remembered the now defunct Blum’s Bakery and their signature crunch cakes. Valerie Confections is pleased to have brought these cakes back to fans old and new. Visitors to our boutique will be treated to a free slice of either flavor.

Wednesday, October 28th Everyday Indulgences 10 am to 6 pm

On Wednesday visitors will be able to try our new line of casual treats, our “Everyday Indulgences”. These perfect little sweet snacks include Almond Toffee Treats, Peanut Toffee Treats, Chocolate Citrus Bark and Chocolate Dipped Shortbread Cookies.

Thursday, October 29th Petits Fours 10 am to 6 pm

Elegant and diminutive, Valerie Confections petits fours come in flavors such as vanilla bean with rose/passion fruit ganache and orange/almond cake with handmade marzipan filling. Visitors will be able to enjoy an afternoon petit four pick me up.

Friday, October 30th Valerie at the Market 10 am to 6 pm

Friday, Valerie will be sampling the “Valerie at the Market” line, which is inspired by the farmer’s markets of Los Angeles. “Valerie at the Market” products change seasonally, according to what is currently being harvested in the region. We’ll have products like White Fig and Fuji Apple Jam, Hand Pies, and Mini Market Cakes for sampling.

Saturday, October 31st Chocolates, Toffees, and Truffles 10 am to 5 pm

To celebrate Halloween, Valerie will be sampling all manner of chocolates. We’ll have our signature Almond Fleur de Sel toffees, Black Pepper Truffles, Liquid Caramels and more.

This year, Project by Project's partner is the Asian Pacific Islander Small Business Program (API SBP), a non-profit, community-based organization whose mission is to assist the development of small and micro businesses of the Asian Pacific American community.
